Village of Walbridge Record of Proceedings of November 2, 2005
Mayor Wilczynski called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2005. The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Liwo, Mr. Gregory, Mr. Timmons, Mrs. Jacobsen, Mr. Smith and Mr. Bollin were present.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Mr. Liwo made a motion to approve the minutes for October 18th. Mr. Timmons seconded the motion. Motion carried.
AUDIENCE: Joe Schiavone, 215 Meadowlane, read a prepared speech criticizing the Mayor, Council, the Eminent Domain issue with Mr. Carroll and how much money was spent on that issue.
Joanne Schiavone, 215 Meadowlane, commented on the newspaper articles about Zinc Ox. She asked if the land for the Zinc Ox deal was purchased from Lake Twp. Mrs. Schiavone also asked if the Mayor or Council have visited a Zinc Ox plant. She said it is a dirty business. Mrs. Schiavone asked if the EPA will oversee this plant. She said that Zinc causes diseases and she will fight to keep this company out of Walbridge.
Edwin Nepper, 301 Meadowlane, asked when the Maintenance Dept. would be coming to fill in the dirt & grass around the sewer they repaired in front of his home. Thanked the Village for replacing a section of curb on Breckman but it needs some dirt filled in also.
Henry LaPlante, 213 Earl St., said he is in favor of bringing business to Walbridge. Mr. LaPlante said the Village & the schools need the taxes. He said it should be left to the experts whether a company is hazardous or not.
Ken Russell, 202 Earl St., said we donít know if the Zinc Ox Company is dirty. Mr. Russell said he highly doubts the EPA would let a company that dirty do business in any community. He said he gives Council credit for trying to bring business to the Village. Mr. Russell said the Village & the school system can use the income.
Glen Hecox, 316 Raymond, made some comments regarding Mr. Schiavoneís comments about Mr. Carroll. Mr. Hecox said he was in favor of bringing new business to the Village. He thanked the Mayor & Council for working on bringing new businesses to town. Mr. Hecox said the citizens need to support the Village and quit belittling and criticizing.

Mayor Wilczynski said he checked with the Zoning Administrator and the house being built on S. Main did get a permit.
FINANCE COMMITTEE: None
SAFETY: Councilman Liwo scheduled at meeting for Nov. 9th at 6 p.m.
The Mayor said a status report was given to Council members regarding the Zoning Issues that Mr. Callas mentioned at the previous Council meeting.
Mayor Wilczynski addressed the audience memberís questions and comments.
The Mayor said a public meeting will be scheduled for late November or early December with Zinc Ox.
Mayor Wilczynski read a prepared speech regarding bringing new businesses to Walbridge and the advantages and disadvantages.
Councilman Liwo made a motion to go into executive session regarding personnel at 7:06 pm. Mr. Timmons seconded the motion. Roll call; all ayes.
Councilman Liwo made a motion to come out of executive session at 7:49 pm. Mr. Timmons seconded the motion. Roll call; all ayes.
The Mayor said he was recommending Don Hendren to be hired as the new part-time Chief of Police, subject to his physical & psychological examination.
Mr. Liwo made a motion to concur with the Mayor. Mr. Gregory seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Mrs. Jacobsen said that she was informed that every year the different businesses in Walbridge get together and have a Business Expo at the Loop Park Shelter House.
Mrs. Jacobsen made a motion to allow the Business Expo at Loop Park Shelter House on Sunday, Dec. 4th from 11 Ė 2 pm. Mr. Timmons seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Mr. Timmons made a motion to adjourn. Mrs. Jacobsen seconded the motion. The meeting was adjourned at 7:52 p.m.
